Looking for some fun ways to make your cat a part of your wedding day? Let us count them for you…
So you’ve decided to get married. Congratulations! Now, if you’re as tight with your cat as you are with your main squeeze, you have one more decision to make — how to involve your cat in your wedding.
The good news is, there’s no right or wrong way. It’s your special day, so it’s up to you. Check out our ideas for how to involve your cat in one of the most important events of your life.
A Role for Your Cat in Your Wedding
There are many roles your cat can play in your wedding, from ring bearer to flower girl escort to sign holder. You may want her by your side during the vows, or one of you could even carry her down the aisle instead of a bouquet. Just be sure to have something else on hand to throw later!
Your cat could help you propose or be the centerpiece of your “save the date” announcements. And if you want to take your cat on your honeymoon, no problem! The number of cat-friendly accommodations just keeps growing.
Cat Theme and Wedding Photos
If you’d like to have a cat-themed wedding, decorative cat-related items like cat toys or giant yarn balls can help. You could even put paw prints on the place cards. Cat puns on the invitations, songs at the reception with meowing in them — there are so many ways to go.
Some people ask that their guests bring donations of canned and dry cat food — or make a donation to their favorite shelter or rescue organization — instead of bringing expensive gifts. If you go this route, make sure your guests know well ahead of time.
With all the effort you put into having the perfect wedding, you’ll want to preserve all the memories. Make sure to get as many photos of you, your sweetie, and your cat as you can, in a variety of poses. You may even want to pick up a cat-themed album to put them in.
If you’re having a cat-themed wedding but keeping your cat at home, your photographer can take your picture with your cat at home ahead of time.
If you’re going to have your cat on hand at the wedding, someone should be designated to handle and watch over her throughout. You may want to leave her at home unless you have a very cooperative cat. If you do involve your cat, it may be best to have someone take her home before the reception so she can chill out and you won’t have to worry about her getting away or getting hurt.
Of course you’ll also want to be sure there’s plenty of clean water available for your cat at all times, and that she is able to take regular potty breaks.
Dog Weddings and Cat Weddings
On a side note, as you may have heard, pet weddings — where humans officiate a wedding between two pets — are officially a thing. We should say they’re still a thing, as they’ve been going on for hundreds of years. Sometimes owners want to celebrate the pawesome relationships between their pets, and sometimes breeders arrange marriages to celebrate successful pairings.
Don’t believe us? Take a look on Instagram under #catweddings, or have a look around the web. There are some adorable pet pairings to behold.
However you decide to involve your cat in your wedding, we hope your special day will be that much more special with all the extra unconditional love your cat will bring.
